It’s been three years since Bastille’s debut album Bad Blood received a bit of a mixed response from critics, and went down an absolute storm with fans. Selling out tour date after tour date, winning the BRIT award for Best Breakthrough act and with three mixtapes under their belts, Bastille have been busy bees since they first popped onto the UK music scene.
You’ve almost certainly heard lead single Good Grief on the radio through the summer. The catchy little number has been near unavoidable in recent weeks. Within a few beats the song is undeniably Bastille. Focusing on synths and Dan Smith’s vocal stylings, the track wouldn’t have felt out of place on Bad Blood. In fact, the whole album is like an extension of the band’s earlier offerings (Bad Blood as well as Other People’s Heartache parts I, II, and III) I could talk about the individual tracks but I’d be hard pushed not to repeat myself. While each is strong on its own, all together they become much of a muchness. Bastille know what they do well, and in this album they’ve done just that with Wild World, 14 times. Meaning that Two Evils, The Currents, and Send Them Off! are best listened too as part of a playlist, and not straight through as an album.
