This four-track instrumental EP features a set of reimagined covers, arranged for piano (obviously). There’s an ethereal feel to it, with haunting melodies that draw you in, encouraging you to listen. It’s by no means lively, instead going for something that is best listened to while relaxing with your choice of beverage, and just chilling out.
The piano, when played well is a beautiful instrument, and you have to admiree the simplicity of the tracks contained within. There are no bells and whistles, but then it doesn’tneed any. The music speaks for itself, and that’s all you can ask for.
Taking all of that into consideration, there is an issue. Personally, I feel that an EP isn’t long enough to fully appreciate Jon’s talent as a musician. Just as you’re getting into the mood that the music creates, it’s all over. It’s most certainly quality over quantity, but it ended far too soon, and left me wanting so much more, although that’s a testament to how good it actually is.
As an introduction to Jon’s music, it’s a great place to start, and I will most certainly be delving into his extensive back catalogue in search for more. I’ll sum up by saying that this EP is brilliantly simple and simply brilliant.
