1. Intro

We’re a Norwich band formed many years ago as a song-writing, creative side project for a number of busy local musicians. We now have enough songs for 3 decent albums.....so it’s time to share our work and stop keeping it to ourselves! I’m not going to describe our style, have a listen to the uploads and decide for yourself.......

2. Music; The Uploads

“Square Mile of City” is one of our latest batch, currently being recorded using our own Pro-tools based state of the art recording equipment. It’s a work in progress, only the drums are finalised, even though it sounds great the guitars and vocals are “scratch” guidelines only. It illustrates our energetic, up-beat side with our brand of acerbic observations of the world and the people in it.

“Slow On The Uptake” recorded in a draughty garage late in 2010. Recorded “one-hit” session style, only the vocals were added separately. It appeared on a 12 track CD produced in limited numbers for family and friends, who’d been listening to some of our stuff and showing great support.  Illustrates our more reflective side, and the guitar melodies that Dan Pye has brought to the table.

“Playing Away” as the title suggests is about a naughty boy, and part of a 3-song fictional (?) auto-biography. This dates from a 3-song demo recorded at good old Purple studios in 2006. It shows our earlier 3 piece “new wave” sound, which remains the bedrock of our song writing.

There’s plenty more we’ll upload as time goes by.....

3. Biography

Andy Mazzei; singer, prolific songwriter, guitars. Founder member. Loves his Telecaster/Fender combo sound and new wave, Clash and The Jam. Also plays with Agent Orange (rock covers/functions) and Cats from Mars (swing jazz!!)

Darren Wales; bass & backing vocals.  Founding member, this has been Darren’s sole musical outlet for some time, there’s dedication for you. Fender bass and big rig! Likes all sorts!

Dan Pye; melodic guitars & backing vocals. For many years a familiar face as staff member in PMT music, St. Augustine’s Street. A more powerful, razor crisp sound courtesy of PRS guitar and latest Blackstar amplification. Yum. Mr Rock.

Richard Mills; drums. Played in Buswood and Lisa Wolfe, now with cats from Mars and Mr Pink (classic rock, mate!!). Likes his Premier Genista birch kit and would gladly double his already considerable number of shiny Zildjian cymbals! Likes everything from blues, metal, indie, ska and tries to sound like the drummer from Therapy? circa Troublegum!

We’re all highly experienced musicians, and we’ve been on the scene in Norwich in one form or another for years. We know how to rock! We enjoy what we do, we put on a lively show and have a laugh, but we’re equally serious about it.

4. History

Andy and Darren (plus drummer) started off some time in the 90’s as Camp Freddie, and for whatever reason it fizzled out.

MkII; after playing with Richard in Buswood during the early/mid naughties, Andy dragged Darren from musical purgatory and Freddie was re-formed as a 3-piece side project. The old songs were dusted off, updated, and more written. The odd gig at the Blueberry and a few local support/festival slots let the songs see the light of day (or at least the stage spotlights).

MKIII; Dan Pye, another Buswood old boy, was recruited late naughties to provide an extra layer of musical depth, through his beautiful guitar melodies, and a bit more oomph with that razor sharp rock sound. The whole sound moves up a gear.

MKIV; around the end of 2011, the Camp Freddie origins were well and truly history, and people thought we were a burlesque act, so we re-launch as KEPLER!

5. Where Next?

a. As mentioned, we want reveal our songs and new name with a bit of style and whizz-bang, so NBT is a great place to start.

b. Gigs; hence our work on an up-to-date demo as a gateway to gigs.

c. Recognising that you aren’t anywhere in music without Social media presence, we’ll be developing our Facebook page. We’ll be putting some content and videos up there.

d. Write more songs! As you can see from the uploads, we’ve kept an archive of our development, and long may it continue!
