I would describe my music as either neo-folk or alternative folk, in that I borrow some structural and instrumentational elements from folk, but try to apply them in more modern settings, i.e. placing folky refrains in a rock song, using synths to create darker textures than would be traditional, or using non-pop structures, with sections in a song becoming more free-form.
