It’s a polished and spirited revival, just one that plays it a little too safe. A rootin’-tootin’ crowd-pleaser. But, heck, I was hoping for a wilder ride through Deadwood.

It was when the band really got the audience dancing with sinuous guitar solos, a bumpy drum machine and an addition of various percussion instruments – tambourines, maracas, guiros – that the sound reverberated and created a buzzy feeling of wonky nostalgia
It’s a brilliant debut with all the flavours and buzz of that very special gig.
The original punk poet, known equally for his rapid-fire surrealistic diatribes as his coat-hanger figure, dark frames and wildfire singed hair has been around the block, circumnavigated the globe countless times as he pointed out in his performance on Thursday night.
Although the intention of the album was to feel the experience of driving through a tunnel, Heart Under takes you to so many other places (some of which you’d rather keep locked away). It’s a terrific second album.
