Mimas, Collider & Dad Rocks! 

For the first Wombat Wombat promotion since last December, we have two bands from Denmark in Dad Rocks! And Mimas plus Norwich's own Collider.

Like Mimas, Dad Rocks! are lead by Iceland-born Snaever Njall Albertsson and, for tonight at least, feature Lasse Dahl Christensen on drums and vocals. This mixes tinges of folk, Postcard style indie and post-rock with soaring harmonies to produce timeless pop. This had me captivated from the opener and kept me smiling throughout. (9/10)

Not to be confused with the NY electroclash band of the same name, Norwich based trio Collider take things to a darker and heavier place, mixing the dubby post-punk of PiL and Killing Joke with the histrionics of Muse. New single Dinosaur is excellent and this had me enthralled in places but overall it left me a little unconvinced. (7/10)

Given the presence of singing guitarist Albertsson and drummer Christensen, it is perhaps unsurprising that Mimas have a similar to Dad Rocks!, albeit with more alt.rock and less pop and folk, hinting at Pavement and Silver Mt. Zion. (8/10) 

On record, Mimas may be the better listen but tonight Dad Rocks! have the edge.

Well done Annie and Wombat Wombat for another classic night. Roll on the next one.
